Meet Lady Canady

The Reverend Taleeta L. Canady serves as the Minister of Congregational Care at the Rodman Street Missionary Baptist Church, Pittsburgh PA. Prior to moving to the city of Pittsburgh in June 2010, Reverend Canady worked as a Communication Skills and Social Studies Teacher and later as a High School Counselor for 13 years in Wilson, North Carolina.

In response to the Master’s call, Reverend Canady accepted a call to the Christian ministry in 2005.  She was later licensed and ordained to preach the Gospel by the Wilson County Baptist Association of Wilson, North Carolina.

Reverend Taleeta, as she is affectionately referred to, was born and reared in Los Angeles, California.  She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies with a concentration in African American Studies from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida in 1992.  Reverend Taleeta went on to complete a Master of Education Degree at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina in 1999.  She was inducted into Chi Sigma Iota, Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society in 1998.   In 2014, Reverend Taleeta graduated from the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with a Master of Divinity Degree.

Reverend Taleeta is grateful to God for the opportunity to serve in Christian ministry.  As the Minister of Congregational Care, she assists the pastor with hospital visitations, coordinates the Bereavement Ministry and facilitates new member intake through the Shepherd’s Care Ministry.  Through her active involvement in church ministry Reverend Taleeta has also developed a passion for teaching the Word of God and exercises other ministry gifts in counseling as she assists parishioners in moving toward spiritual fulfillment.

Reverend Taleeta is Co-Founder of the L.I.F.E. Male Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics Academy, Pittsburgh’s only k-12 male academy with a focus on S.T.E.A.M. curriculum. The school serves males of all races, color, and national origin with an emphasis on enrolling African American males and others who are socially and economically disadvantaged and underrepresented in the STEM pipeline.

In 1999, Reverend Taleeta experienced the miraculous healing power of Jehovah Rapha through a near fatal attack of the enemy.  She attributes her remarkable recovery to speaking the Word of God over her life.  As part of her daily confessions, she quotes Psalm 118: 17, “I shall not die but live, and declare the works of the Lord.”

Family is Reverend Taleeta’s greatest joy.  She is married to Dr. Darryl T. Canady, Senior Pastor of Rodman Street Missionary Baptist Church and from their union they have been blessed with two children, Major Alexander and Essence Cary.

“I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry.”  I Timothy 1:12
