Meet the Pastor
Dr. Darryl Troveno Canady
“If I can help somebody as I pass along, then my living shall not be in vain…”
That thought has been a guiding factor in the spiritual growth and daily life of Reverend Dr. Darryl T. Canady. He was reared in both Kissimmee, Florida and later in Jacksonville, Florida.
Dr. Canady received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Banking/Finance from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia; his Master of Divinity degree from Emory University Candler School of Theology in Atlanta, Georgia; and his Doctor of Ministry degree from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia. Dr. Canady also worked as an Account Executive and a Sales Representative for the Pillsbury Company in Charlotte, North Carolina prior to accepting his call to the ministry in 1991. He served as the youth minister for three years at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina and was ordained in 1994 by the Mecklenburg General Baptist Association.
In October, 1994, he accepted the call to pastor Jackson Chapel First Missionary Baptist Church in Wilson, North Carolina. Under Pastor Canady’s leadership the church membership increased by several hundred people, the budget more than tripled, and over 25 new ministries and special days were started. God gave Pastor Canady a vision called “The Block of Hope” and through this vision Jackson Chapel made a major impact on the entire community through counseling, education, economic empowerment, training, and service. Under his leadership the church purchased the surrounding property, received over $300,000 in grants for outreach programs and received state and local recognition for the “Block of Hope” vision. In September 2001 the church dedicated a $1.5 million education center, totally renovated the fellowship hall, and paved the parking lot.
In February, 2010, Dr. Canady accepted the call to Pastor Rodman Street Missionary Baptist Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He brings a high level of excitement, energy and experience to his new appointment at “The Street”. He offers a fresh perspective for revitalization inside the church and outside in the local and global community.
Dr. Canady is a very gifted preacher and teacher of the Gospel. He completed the three year Lott Carey Foreign Mission Convention Pastoral Excellence Program and has ministered in several cities across the United States and internationally in Capetown, South Africa, Polokwane, South Africa, Guyana, South America and Jamaica, West Indies. He enjoys facilitating workshops on leadership development, male empowerment, marriage and family enrichment, and youth enhancement. His life mission comes from Luke 12:48, “for unto whom much is given, much is required.”
Dr. Canady is married to the former Taleeta LaTreena Smith of Los Angeles, California, and they are the proud parents of one son, Major Alexander and one daughter Essence Cary.
